MIU

MIU — Design System
Challenge
The Ukrainian government initiated the process of service digitisation. During that time the Ministry of Internal Affairs already had a website, however, it was tailored for different purposes and didn’t comply with current needs. So it was decided to ditch the idea of a soft facelift and build a new portal version from the ground up.
Goal
- Create an accessible design system
- Introduce consistency and usability
- Make the system reusable for other MIU entities
- Development of the universal landing page template for special events and promotions
Approach
- Research
- Interviews with the product owner and developers
- Development of the informational architecture
- Wireframes and prototypes
- The mobile-first design and desktop version
process
Accessibility
Provided ways to adjust the display setting according to user needs. It includes the ability to increase the font size, adjust contrast, or enable text-to-speech functionality.
Implemented accessibility features
- Settings for people with visual impairment
- Structured content
- Keyboard navigation
- Understandable affordances
- Proper color contrast
- Semantic code
- Subtle animation

Result
Incorporating accessibility into the planning phase of development makes implementation easy. However, since it was the development team's first project with a primary focus on accessibility, they were initially hesitant. As a result, I decided to provide a workshop. The team appreciated these practices, and subsequent work progressed smoothly.
